Contact has since been lost with the city. Two hours before landfall, the Joint Typhoon Warning Center assessed Haiyan’s sustained winds at 195 mph, gusting to 235 mph, making it the 4th strongest tropical cyclone in world history.Source: http://www.wunderground.com

(CNN) -- With 25 million people in its path, one of the strongest tropical cyclones ever observed, Super Typhoon Haiyan, made landfall Friday morning in the Philippines, the country's weather service reported.
At least three people, including a 1-year-old, were killed. The infant and another person were hit by tornado debris in Cotabato province, the country's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.

Category five Typhoon Haiyan is the strongest storm to hit the Pacific region this year. Typhoon Haiyan is battering the Philippines with sustained winds of 235 km/h (146mph). Meteorologists say that if initial estimates based on satellite images are borne out, it could be the most powerful storm ever to make landfall.
