The Possessive Forms of Noun

1. Add an apostrophe and s ('s) to singular nouns and to plural nouns not ending in s.

a. The dog's tail is long.


b. The children's toys are new.

a. My mother is sewing soldiers' uniforms.

2. Add an apostrophe (') only to plural nouns ending in s.

b. Puppies' ears are wide.

3. Add apostrophe and s ('s) or only an apostrophe (') to nouns ending in s or z.
a. (Santos's or Santos') family is on vacation.




b. (Mrs. Cruz's or Mrs. Cruz') house is very far.

4. Add an apostrophe and s ('s) or apostrophe (') only after the last noun to show joint ownership.

a. Lisa and Ann's food is on the table.

5. Add an apostrophe and s ('s) or apostrophe (') only after each noun to show separate ownership.

b. The teacher and student's meeting will be on Monday.



a. Rica's friend, Lyn-lyn's friend and Myla's friend will meet at the party.

6. Add an apostrophe and s ('s) for time expression.
b. I am writing my tomorrow's plan.

a. Yesterday's menu was very delicious.

b. Rico's uncle, Arnold's father and Lyndon's brother will come today.
